St. Laurentius church ruin is full of mystery and stories about the city of Roskilde. It is located in the center of the city, about 2 meters underground below Stændertorvet. St. Laurentius Church ruin is among other things famous for it's well preserved and original brick floor. In the ruins there is also a small museum with finds from the archaeological excavation carried out in 1998. However the church ruin is not the only thing worth visiting here. The ruin is connected to the church tower which has a beautiful lookout over the city. The tower also holds two old and preserved prison cells which, among others have held the two murderers from Venslev. A true crime story which ended up with the murderers being executed and a total of 43 people from the small town being convicted for commiting a total of 180 crimes!
