18 Inselstr.
Leipzig, Saxony 04103
The day after their wedding on September 12th 1840, the newlywed artist couple, Clara and Robert Schumann, moved into their first apartment in the Inselstraße in Leipzig, a residence in which they spent the first four years of their marriage. The museum in their former living quarters can be found on the first floor. The principal occupant of this building is the Freie Grundschule “Clara Schumann” (independent elementary school “Clara Schumann”) with its artistic profile. Together, the Schumann-Verein Leipzig e.V., the curators of the museum and the event coordinators, impart the cultural and historical meaning of this house and fill it with life, hosting over 40 concerts per year in the Schumann hall. Guided tours are available in German and in English.
