We are the Sorge Border Museum Association in the beautiful Harz town of Sorge on the former inner-German border. Our aim is to keep alive the memory of the period of German division from 1949 to 1990 and to pass on knowledge about this part of our country's history to future generations by means of original artefacts and contemporary documents. Our open-air border museum (Grenzlandschaft), which has been well visited for many years, contains remnants of the original border fortifications that were saved from destruction by our municipality. The natural monument "Ring of Remembrance" is also located here & you can hike along the Kolonnenweg, which is now known as the "Green Belt", to the Heiko Runge memorial stone near Hohegeiß. On the initiative of our association, the railway station building in Sorge has also been converted into a small border museum. Our open-air museum is open around the clock. The small border museum is open seasonally. Guided tours can be requested at any time.
