Hammam & SPA Oktogon Bern

The Hammam & Spa Oktogon Bern is located on the foundation of the first gas boiler in the city of Bern from the 19th century, an octagonal building, the Oktogon. The unique spatial experience is characterized above all by the central room, which was restored on the basis of old reconstructions and under monument protection aspects. Analogous to the offer and the building, the materials used correspond to a mix of original oriental one-off pieces, paired with noble European interior architecture, whereby the original architecture was built back on and the old building became an «exhibition space» again. From the point of view of monument preservation, this successful conversion can be described as a stroke of luck. It enables the recovery of a spectacular interior and the long-term preservation of a striking building that has become an integral part of the Marzili district.
