Scadding Cabin
Scadding Cabin, built in 1794, is Toronto's oldest surviving building, originally owned by John Scadding, an assistant to Upper Canada's first Lieutenant Governor, John Graves Simcoe. Located at the west end of the Exhibition Grounds, the cabin was donated to the Pioneers in 1879 and meticulously reconstructed by the York Pioneers after being dismantled from its original site near the Don River.
The relocation of the cabin to the Canadian National Exhibition grounds remains a subject of speculation, with theories suggesting the logs were floated down the Don River. The rebuilding process was well-documented in contemporary newspapers, highlighting the community effort involved in preserving this historic structure.
