There really was a Mary Macleod - she founded the company back in 1981, as she baked her signature chocolate crunch shortbread from a small shop in the heart of Toronto. It was the first business in Canada devoted exclusively to making artisanal shortbread cookies, and at the heart of the brand’s renowned quality is Mary’s unwavering core belief, now carried on by the next generation of Macleods, that high-quality shortbread must be handmade in small batches only the best ingredients possible.
