Come enjoy our rustic surroundings, reconnect with food and its sometimes crazy history. Some of our plants date back to 4000BC! The Bruce Botanical Food Gardens (BBFG)has 1.5 acres of landscaped space and everything is edible in one way or another. We focus on heirloom food plants that are also rare, very rare, endangered, or world food plants. Besides the rustic, food filled environment that is a wonderful escape from the hectic lifestyles many of us lead, this site is also a social enterprise. As a registered non-profit corporation, we have a mandate to address: levels of food insecurity, sustainable agriculture, and the plight if the small family farm through hands on, educational programming. Come to the Township of Huron-Kinloss and explore The Secrets of the Back 40, travel their award winning Ice Cream Trail, visit the site of the newest heirloom apple in Bruce County-The Ripley Apple (under development by the BBFG) on the newly designated Ripley Apple Rail Trail, and see the historic Lewis Cemetery where settlers of the area in the early 19th century settled after leaving the Isle of Lewis Scotland. Well worth the trip to the eastern shores of Lake Huron.
