Beaverhouse First Nation
Beaverhouse First Nation, located on the banks of the Misema River system northeast of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, draws its name from the Algonquin term for beaver nest. Recognized for its mission to foster self-reliant living in harmony with nature, the community focuses on nurturing its people through various health, social, economic, and cultural programs.
In April 2022, Beaverhouse First Nation received federal acknowledgment of its status, enabling it to pursue historic grievances related to Treaty #9. The community is actively engaging in negotiations with Canadian authorities to secure recognition and compensation for its distinct identity and rights.
