Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute (MTRI) is a non-profit cooperative dedicated to the promotion, conservation, and sustainability of biodiversity in Kespukwitk, located in southwestern Nova Scotia. Their vision encompasses flourishing communities where both forests and aquatic ecosystems thrive harmoniously, ensuring the protection of various species from endangerment.
Grounded in Kespukwitk, one of Mi’kma’ki's seven districts and the Mi’kmaw people's homeland, MTRI honors the treaties of peace and friendship. The institute expresses gratitude for the Mi’kmaw people's kindness in sharing their ancestral land. MTRI's noteworthy projects cover a range of vital species, including Barn Swallows, Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, Monarch Butterflies, and Bats.
