Gander Heritage Memorial Park, located in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, was established to enhance and rejuvenate the area formerly known as the War Memorial or Cenotaph site. The park aims to preserve its status as a beloved landmark in the town for generations to come.
The rededication ceremony on July 23, 2015, attended by Lieutenant-Governor Frank F. Fagan and Patricia Fagan, included the unveiling of the Winged Victory Cenotaph, the Memorial Wall of the 125th Newfoundland Squadron of the Royal Air Force, and statues honoring Sergeant Gander, the Newfoundland War Dog, and his handler from the Royal Rifles of Canada.
Rooted in a school reunion in 2010, the memorial to Sergeant Gander is a gift from former children of Gander to the present generation. Future plans for the park include commemorating Gander's aviation history, paying tribute to events like Arrow Air and Sabena Belgian Airlines, as well as a memorial to Ferry Command.
