Beth El Synagogue, established in 1909, is the only synagogue in Newfoundland and Labrador, with its current building opening in 1960 after moving from Henry Street. Originally an Orthodox congregation, it became an egalitarian Conservative community in 1992, also housing the sole Jewish cemetery on the island.
