Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation
Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation is a rural community located approximately one hour south of Winnipeg, Manitoba, with a total membership of 2,000 people across three reserve communities. Known as the Strong Heart People, they have a rich history in the Red River and Pembina Valleys and signed Treaty 1 on August 3, 1871, ultimately resolving their land claim in 2011.
The community is part of the collective Ojibway of Manitoba and is actively involved in governance and development initiatives, including the Treaty One Joint Reserve Land Code. Led by Chief Gary Roberts and a council of elected representatives, Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation continues to foster cultural heritage and community engagement through events like their annual Pow Wow and Tribal Days.
