Blackface Resistance Entertainment in Canada (BREC) is a research initiative and archive founded by Dr. Cheryl Thompson at Toronto Metropolitan University, aimed at critically examining the history of blackface in North American entertainment. Through extensive research and community engagement, BREC highlights the resilience and creativity of Black communities while confronting the offensive legacy of blackface in Canadian culture.

Since its inception in 2012, BREC has developed a comprehensive database of historical materials, including community playbills and newspaper clippings, to document the complexities of performance and resistance against anti-Blackness.
