Step back in time and explore early Alberta settlement history through the eyes of early Ukrainian settlers in east central Alberta. East central Alberta is Canada’s oldest and one-time largest bloc settlement of Ukrainian settlers. This bloc settlement is also a major reason why Edmonton today has the largest population of Ukrainian-Canadian among all Canadian cities and Alberta has the largest population among all provinces. Explore more than 35 historic structures at this open-air museum, including, including three churches of Eastern Byzantine Rite, train station and grain elevator, blacksmith shop and farmsteads illustrating the progression from subsistence to commercial grain farming by the 1920s. A visitor favourite is stepping inside a burdei (sod house), the first temporary home for the earliest Ukrainian settlers to the region. Enjoy delicious Ukrainian food and visit our gift shop. Starting May 18, open Wednesday-Sunday (and holiday Mondays) until Labour Day in September.
