Dour Festival

The only commemoration of its kind in the world, celebrating the liberation of the battle of the pocket of Mons with a parade of WWII vehicles. The Gayant family is big. Really big. Monsieur is eight and a half meters tall and weighs a mere 370 kilos, while his wife and three children are sized to suit. In the northern French town of Douai, these strange figures require seven men to steer them when they come out each year for the Festival of Giants. Originally they honored a real-life hero who saved Douai from a siege in the ninth century. Today for a few days briefly in July they lead the townsfolk a very merry dance.
