Vienna 1040
The Wien Museum is home to Vienna’s extraordinary collection of art works and historical artifacts, giving visitors a glimpse into the city's culture and history. Its landmark building was erected in the 1950s, and following a major renovation and expansion, it reopened on December 6, 2023. The museum’s permanent exhibition “Vienna. My History” offers a chronological tour of the city — from the first settlement to the present day. Across three floors, visitors encounter highlights ranging from a 20ft-model of St. Stephen’s cathedral and Gustav Klimt’s portrait of Emilie Flöge to the museum’s mascot Poldi, the Prater Whale. Admission to “Vienna. My History” is free! Additional attractions at the Wien Museum include temporary exhibitions on the top floor, numerous programs for all ages in the atelier studios and event centers as well as a restaurant and café. The latter includes a terrace with a spectacular view of Vienna’s city center.
