Founded in 1498 by Emperor Maximilian I, this internationally renowned youth choir has been heard around the world ever since. In Vienna, there are two key venues to experience the Vienna Boys Choir: their own concert hall, MuTh, and the Imperial Chapel in the first district. At the MuTh, you will be able to the choir's newest programmes; in addition, the choir regularly presents world music and fully staged children's operas at MuTh. The boys take turns at singing Mass in the Imperial Chapel (Sundays at 9.15 am, September - June; the Chapel is closed in from July to mid-September); note that this is a sung Church service, with the musicians performing on the organ loft, out of sight for most of the service. The boys perform alongside the men of the State Opera Chorus and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. After the service, the boys descend to sing one motet in front of the altar.
